Nature trippin' is a side to California, or to the whole of US for that matter, that is often excluded from the itineraries of hurried visits in favor of trips to Disneyland or to outlet stores, or to Hollywood. Which is sad because as I would find out in this trip, California is a treasure chest of up close and personal encounters with nature waiting to be opened. Maica brought me to 4 hiking trails so far; and all 4 I have enormously enjoyed. My favorite is the Franklin trail which is the most hazily undefined among the 4 and offered the most elbow-rubbing opportunities with nature. (I have yet to post photos from the Franklin and Griffith). We're still planning for our 5th and final hike, all the way to 20 feet behind the famous HOLLYWOOD sign. Hopefully, we push thru with it on Saturday.
On Friday last week, Iana sent me to an ecological reserve -- or in laymen's term, a sanctuary --by the Huntington coast.
Super glad when I discovered my idiot camera can get THIS close.
Neighborhood hiker with curlers.
She totally reminded us of our mama.
Fields of gold.
We were so stoked when we saw this bird just hanging around. Isn't she fabulous?
Joy!
(Heads up! You will see me in this hands raised overjoyed pose in more photos to come!)
Those words in white and in thick font right below the road say:
POISONED BY THE WORLD.
Gotcha rabbit!
I got this close.
The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve
A Huntington Beach neighborhood on the other side.
And a Home Depot ad on the Bolsa Chica.
They shouldn't be in the same sentence.
